Andrew Corporation will offer mobile location systems to Nokia's GSM network base station subsystem (BSS) customers under an agreement completed between the two companies. In addition, Andrew will license from Nokia certain technologies that will be used in the supplied location systems.

Under the agreement, operators of GSM wireless networks worldwide in which Nokia BSS infrastructure equipment is deployed will be able to purchase the Andrew location systems to support location-based commercial value-added services, public safety emergency caller location services, and security applications.

"Our collaboration with Nokia will enable our companies to offer world-class solutions to Nokia customers around the world to support new and enhanced location-based services," said Terry Garner, group president, Network Solutions, Andrew. "The combination of both companies' expertise in this area will help wireless operators bring to market innovative location-enhanced applications of all types and create new revenue-generating opportunities."

The Andrew serving mobile location center (SMLC)--a wireless location management system that processes location-related data and calculates the position of mobile devices--being furnished to Nokia-equipped operators under the agreement is capable of supporting multiple mobile location technologies, including those that can locate any GSM wireless device.

Andrew is the world's most experienced supplier of high-accuracy mobile location systems. Since 2001, more than a dozen wireless network operators covering tens of millions of mobile users have installed Andrew Geometrix(R) systems to provide accurate location of people who call police, fire, and medical emergency services from wireless devices.
