Andrew Coverage and Capacity Systems in Barcelona Ready to Support 3GSM Visitors

February 2, 2007 WESTCHESTER, Ill.

The global wireless industry converges on Barcelona in mid-February with tens of thousands of mobile device-wielding, bandwidth-hungry visitors filling the Spanish city for 3GSM World Congress 2007 to promote business, close deals, gain knowledge, and renew acquaintances.

Helping delegates stay connected during the non-stop business and pleasure that week, Andrew Corporation’s coverage and capacity systems are working behind the scenes in many of Barcelona’s top transportation, business, and hospitality locations to ensure reliable wireless connections—essential to all attendees but of ongoing benefit to residents of the city.

Andrew’s Intelligent Optical Network series (ION™-M and ION™-B) systems are installed by Andrew’s operator customers in numerous places that will be frequented by Barcelona visitors, including the city’s metro, high-speed train lines, several high-rise buildings, and shopping centers. In addition, Andrew’s terrestrial trunked radio (TETRA) systems provide reliable and seamless coverage for emergency response teams in the city’s metro.

“Like in most other major cities in the world, Andrew’s ION systems are part of everyday life in Barcelona, providing coverage and capacity solutions in hotels, office buildings, train tunnels, and underground systems that help operators provide service to customers in hard-to-reach places,” said Andrea Casini, vice president of Europe, Middle East, Africa sales, Andrew Corporation. “Ensuring wireless customers get coverage in signal-challenged venues is one of the things Andrew does best.”

Andrew’s coverage and capacity offerings, including newly launched remote units for ION-B, will be part of the company’s ConnectOptimizeGrow solutions on exhibit February 12-15 at 3GSM World Congress (Stand C47, Hall 2). Andrew’s ConnectOptimizeGrow solutions help wireless operators connect users at the lowest capital expense, optimize efficiency and increase control of their networks, and grow usage and value.

Andrew’s ION series is the industry-leading optical distribution system for carrying radio signals loss-free over fiber optics, at all power levels, at distances ranging from 100 meters to 20 kilometers. Andrew offers a complete line of robust and field-proven distributed communications system solutions for difficult coverage areas, tunnels, metros, and buildings, and has more than 15 years of experience in designing, installing, and managing large and complex radio frequency distribution systems for metropolitan railways, building owners, and public mobile radio and telephone operators throughout the world. Major projects include the 2006 World Cup stadiums, Hong Kong metro, Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport, Sydney Olympics, Montreal metro, Turin metro, and Germany’s Inter-City Express high speed rail.
