“Redwood’s approach has the potential of revolutionizing how SSL light sources, controls, and power supplies are integrated in architectural illumination,” said Kevin Willmorth, Architectural SSL. “The reduction in fixture components, improved controllability, simplicity of wiring, and potential efficiency gains are intriguing. The system approach to lighting is nice, and done right this will mean significant energy savings.”

Redwood Systems, a leader in networked LED lighting controls and building intelligence, today announced it has won a 2011 Architectural SSL Product Innovation Award (PIA). Redwood was awarded the highest honor bestowed, the Platinum level, lending further validation to Redwood’s innovative approach to intelligent lighting.

The inaugural Architectural SSL PIA Awards determine and recognize the best and most revolutionary LED and solid-state luminaires, fixtures and systems on the market, as well as the companies behind the components that comprise intelligent light sources. The PIA Awards also honor leaders in research and development (R&D), standards developers, market leaders and all those contributing to solid-state lighting (SSL) innovation.

This year’s PIA Awards winners were selected by a panel of experts across the SSL community, including lead judge and principal with Clanton Associates, Dane Sanders; Architectural SSL’s resident specialist Kevin Willmorth; award-winning director of lighting for Ewing Cole, Steve Neimeister; and CEO of InLightIn Design and advisory member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America’s SSL testing procedures committee, Evelyn Sahaja.

“This is an important accolade as it comes from an influential publication dedicated to furthering LED and solid-state lighting adoption in commercial properties,” said Dave Leonard, CEO and Co-Founder of Redwood Systems. “Redwood Systems’ LED lighting control and building intelligence technology is redefining the intersection of lighting and design, with a goal towards enabling highly intelligent, energy efficient buildings. Being recognized by Architectural SSL is a testament to how technologies like ours are at the forefront of innovation in both lighting and design, and are helping drive sustainability across all types of organizations.”

This marks the third award win for Redwood in 2011. In addition to the Architectural SSL PIA Award, Redwood was named a 2011 Bloomberg New Energy Finance Pioneer; and received a “Best New Product: Energy Category” award by the Edison Awards.
