800/900 Series Digital System Cross-Connect (DSX)
CommScope's 800/900-Series DSX is a modular assembly of apparatus and framework for the purposes of terminating, cross connecting, monitoring, testing, and maintaining digital circuits. The 800/900 series DSX systems are ideal for applications where the existing cross-connect system density is inadequate and the best alternative is circuit replacement with higher density apparatus; or, new applications where circuit requirements dictate the use of a shelf capacity greater than 80 circuits. Due to its unique front access design, these systems are easy to access and use in customer premises applications.

Increased Termination Density.
One 800-Series DSX bay can terminate up to 800 circuits, and one 900-Series DSX can terminate up to 900 circuits. This results in more termination without congestion, reduced need for intra-office repeaters for DSX jumpers longer than 85 ft (25.8m), and fewer bays and floor space required.

Front Facing Operations.
800-Series DSX apparatus has horizontal and vertical jumper troughs, cross-connect terminal field, jack access field, and tracing lamps all front facing for simplified access. This facilitates jumper installation, helps eliminate back aisle operations, simplifies circuit identification, and helps control labor costs.

Simplified Block Installation.
All blocks can be installed from the front, permitting front-access-only DSX installations, quick and easy cabling, and block replacement while the DSX is in service.

High Density Bay Cabling.
Rear "waterfall" cabling allows back-to-the-wall DSX installations, higher circuit density over side-cabled frames because no spacing between frames is required, and compatibility with either under-floor or overhead cable racking arrangements.

Improved Performance.
Precision manufacturing techniques helps ensure reliable, low cross-talk transmission paths.

Total System Concept.
The 800/900-Series DSX blocks, shelves, and bays are designed for very small through very large DSX installations up to 36,960 circuits, based upon a standard layout of three 50 foot lineups to accommodate a 85 foot maximum length jumper. Applications larger than 36,960 circuits can be achieved by the use of active (repeatered) ties.

800/900-series panel assemblies provide connecting blocks, a metal bracket that mounts the blocks, labels, and all the apparatus needed for a complete DSX shelf. With the exception of the blank panels, all panels are supplied with individual jack blocks and/or tie blocks. The 800-Series DSX System includes vertical trough pieces.

2. 900-Series DSX
The Enhanced 900-Series DSX includes all of the features of the 800-Series DSX, but provides more robust hardware features. Enhancements include a deeper horizontal panel trough which provides greater jumper capacity, scalloped upper and lower express troughs which provide better hand access, wire form jumper retainers for better wire retention, and frame mounted vertical troughs.

Patch Cords (Plugs)
Patch cords are used to cross connect, interconnect, or patch circuits on Bantam, 800/900-Series DSX, DSAB-1 or DIXI-1 Systems. The 800/900-type cords (plugs) have an edge board type printed wiring board to open the normally closed contacts in the IN and OUT jacks of the 800A-type connecting block or DIXI-1. The printed wiring board is plated with precious metal for long life, low contact resistance, and high reliability.

Regenerator Cords
The DS1 cross-connect regenerator cords are a family of hand-held regenerators for DS1-type signals. These cords boost the -20 dB DS1 monitor signal level by 20 dB to output a standard DS1 signal level. This allows DS1 circuits from either 800/900-Series or Bantam equipment to be bridged to other 800/900-Series or Bantam equipment while the DS1 circuit is in-service.

Each regenerator cord assembly consists of a 4-foot (1.2 m) input cord and plug, a plastic regenerator unit, and either a 30-foot (9.1 m) or 60-foot (18.3 m) output cord and plug.

Each regenerator unit has three LEDs located on the front of the box to assist with diagnostics. The green POWER LED lights when power is applied. The green SIGNAL PRESENT LED lights when a signal is present at the regenerator's input. The yellow BPV LED lights when bipolar violations (bit errors) are detected in the bit stream.

The input cord plugs into the monitor (MON) jack of the jack block. Power for the regenerator cords is provided by one of two methods, depending on the type of plug (800-type or bantam-type) at the input. The cords with an 800-type plug receives -48 V from the MON jack on the 800A-type jack block. The cords with a bantam-type input plug receive their power via an additional cord equipped with a plug that slides onto any available power/ground wire-wrap pins.

The regenerator cords equipped with an 800-type output plug contain a 100-ohm resistor for terminating cross-connect circuits. Cords equipped with a bantam-type output plug will not automatically terminate the cross-connect circuits.
