InSite Connect is a single comprehensive solution that remotely controls and monitors the subsystems inside each base station site and enables network operators to coordinate and manage the conditions at all base station sites across their network.

InSite Connect consists of two main components. The Remote Controller Unit (RCU) is a rack-mounted solution deployed at each base station site throughout the network and can manage and monitor up to 89 individual subsystems. Each RCU feeds into a centrally-located Control Management System (CMS) that enables operators to remotely manage and monitor thousands of individual base station sites or more.

The InSite Connect™ System includes a central management system (CMS) which acts as the notification center for site alarms and status informa­tion, and a remote controller unit (RCU) which provides the connectivity and control to all cell site operational subsystems.

OneBase InSite Central Management System (CMS)
The CMS server, which acts as the notification center for site alarms and status information, is centrally located and designed to communicate with an RCU at each cell site. The server is capable of managing up to 2000 cell sites. If more than 2000 cell sites need to be managed, then multiple CMS servers can be deployed. Furthermore, these servers are capable of being interconnected to perform like a single virtual server.

The CMS is not only capable of real-time cell site equipment maintenance, status, and alarming, but also is capable of scheduling future site specific changes on either a one time or a regular recurring schedule.

In addition, the CMS is capable of generating reports that summarize the cell site specific data that is constantly being gathered by the RCU units at each cell site.

OneBase InSite™ Connect Remote Controller Unit

The Andrew Remote Controller Unit (RCU) is a key component of the Andrew OneBase InSite Connect system, a comprehensive turnkey system designed to fully manage remote cell-site subsystems by providing centralized notification of cell-site alarms and equipment status as well as configuration and maintenance of remote cell-site equipment.

The RCU is the central connection aggregation point for each cell-site and provides the interface to manage and control all cell-site operational subsystems. It is designed such that all remote access to the cell-site subsystems via the RCU is tightly controlled and is only possible through the centrally located Central Management System (CMS).

The RCU is a 1RU, 19” or 23” rack-mountable unit designed to install in an existing base station rack, and is powered from the base station power system. It has a total of 89 ports available for connectivity to local cell-site subsystems. These ports include:

• 43 Dry Contact input ports (monitoring open/closed status)
• 16 Analog input ports (8 voltage and 8 current)
• 8 Form C Relay output ports (for controlling cell-site subsystems)
• 5 General Purpose 10/100 Base-T Ethernet ports
• 12 General Purpose Serial ports (6 RS-232, 2 RS-232/RS-485, 4 RS-485)
• 2 USB 2.0 ports
• 3 AISG RET Controller Interface ports (not available on all models)
• PC Card slot for wireless modem
• Ethernet IP-based backhaul

The RCU can be configured with three optional Remote Electrical Tilt (RET) Antenna controllers. With this feature, the RCU provides standard AISG interfaces for monitoring and controlling AISG 1.1 and AISG 2.0 compliant RET antennas and TMA’s.

Connectivity back to the centrally located CMS is achieved via a dedicated backhaul Ethernet port or an optional integrated wireless modem. If connectivity back to the CMS is lost, the RCU is capable of storing up to 24 hours of cell-site subsystem data to be transmitted when connectivity is re-established.

The OneBase InSite™ RF component is a stand alone unit mounted in or alongside a standard base station transceiver (BTS) rack, and works with any original equipment manufacturers BTS radio equipment. It can run site tests automatically according to a schedule or in real-time via an Internet connection. InSite RF takes readings on antenna feedline return loss, in both uplink and downlink frequency bands, pilot power, and other site metrics and will notify radio frequency technicians via alarms when performance is at or nearing sub-par levels.
