At CommScope, we embrace our role as stewards of the environment and value the well-being of our employees, customers, suppliers, and communities. We strive, in all aspects of business, to minimize our environmental impact by developing products, services, and practices that are safe and sustainable.
CommScope implemented an integrated EH&S management system as our Global Standard. The EH&S management system uses the same principles and criteria of the international environmental management system standard ISO14001 and health and safety management system standard OHSAS 18001. It ensures a systematic set of processes and practices, designed to minimize our environmental impacts and maximize the health and safety of our employees. At the core of the EH&S management system is a continuous cycle of planning, implementing, reviewing and improving organizational processes and actions.
CommScope sets facility and companywide objectives and targets relating to our processes and services. CommScope implemented a global audit program that focuses on performance and compliance to our management system as well as global standards, regulatory and other legal requirements.
The integrated EH&S management system enables CommScope to meet our customers’ requirements by either certifying to ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 or complying with these international standards through its integrated management system. This approach enables CommScope to be a better corporate steward of our environment while affirming our responsibility to our communities, employees and stakeholders.
Annually, at our manufacturing facilities, distribution centers and offices, we recycle more than 50 million pounds of material for internal reuse or sale to other markets. This is a critical part of our ISO 14001 processes and our company culture.
Established in 1988, CommScope’s award-winning and innovative ReelSmart® recycling program enables us to reuse more than 100,000 cable reels annually, effectively saving over 20,000 trees. CommScope has received two North Carolina Governor’s Awards for Excellence in Waste Reduction (Large Business Category) in recognition of this innovative program. We recently added a program for our HELIAX® cable line.
CommScope understands that water is a limited and precious resource. We collect and analyze water usage and discharge at all of our major manufacturing locations. At our factory in India, we installed a 66 million liter rain water harvesting system. This allows us to store water during the monsoon season and use it later for production purposes.
In 2002, CommScope started voluntarily reporting greenhouse gases for our US facilities with the US Department of Energy. In 2008, CommScope transitioned to using the Carbon Disclosure Project , reporting Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions. Both programs use the Greenhouse Gas Protocol
At CommScope, we embrace our role as stewards of the environment and value the well-being of our employees, customers, suppliers, and communities. We are committed to being compliant with RoHS, REACH, WEEE or any other applicable legal requirements or directives. To achieve this, we have a global organization comprising of environmental specialist engineers and product compliance experts who are consistently ensuring our compliance status is maintained. We manage our compliance using a cross functional approach with our engineers, designers, quality, supply chain and production. To assist our efforts, we have engaged the services of an on-line EH&S global regulatory monitoring system. This, along with our internal expertise, ensures we have updated knowledge on current and proposed environmental regulations.
