What is the transaction between CommScope and TE Connectivity?
On August 28, 2015, CommScope officially acquired the telecom, enterprise and wireless businesses of TE Connectivity, a world leader in fiber optic connectivity for wireline and wireless networks. The combination of competencies emerging from this acquisition will open exciting new avenues of growth and innovation.
Why did CommScope make this acquisition and how will it benefit customers?
One word: bandwidth. As the demand for bandwidth grows, network architectures and technology must change and adapt rapidly, which creates new wired and wireless complexity challenges for our customers. As a result of this acquisition, CommScope will deliver more solutions to help customers expand and improve their networks quickly and efficiently.
How will CommScope leverage these new capabilities to enhance innovation going forward?
CommScope will combine wired and wireless capabilities and expertise to further accelerate innovation for infrastructure solutions. Our portfolio of patents and patent applications has expanded to more than 9,500, and we will apply new resources toward research and development.
What new solutions or capabilities will CommScope have to offer?
CommScope is recognized globally for three core offerings: macro-cell wireless network connectivity solutions and small-cell DAS solutions; enterprise connectivity solutions for data centers and commercial buildings; and RF infrastructure for hybrid fiber coaxial networks. Going forward, we will build upon this core foundation with an expanded fiber offering designed to meet the emerging challenges of fiber deployments pushing deeper into networks and data centers.
How will this acquisition affect CommScope’s global market reach?
CommScope serves the global marketplace with a supply chain that reaches more than 100 countries on six continents. The acquisition will help us put new resources into play that allow CommScope to better serve markets in North and South America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific. This will help our customers realize greater speed and improved time to market.
How will telco networks benefit from CommScope’s expertise?
We understand how to build networks–it’s been our business for decades. This helps us better address our customers’ toughest challenges around convergence; migration to fiber networks; implementation of virtualization; capacity enhancement; and new technology migration.
