Data Center Soup

For those of you involved in the planning, design, commisioning or operation of data centers, keeping up to date with the suggested best practise and available options can be a veritable soup to wade through. Thick and lumpy for some, thin and clear for others!

For those of you involved in the planning, design, commissioning or operation of data centers, keeping up to date with the suggested best practice and available options can be a veritable soup to wade through. Thick and lumpy for some, thin and clear for others!

The hottopics in infrastructure terms seem to be power and cooling, from a financial standpoint but also environmental and green concerns.

From an IT technology perspective, a plethora of platforms, systems, design approaches and architectures exist, each with their own passionate group of advocates.

Quite a daunting task to someone new to data centers to wade through, but also I suspect for those who have been at it for a while.

One of the benefits of working for a company like CommScope is being supported by the 'hidden gems' in our R&D teams—the people with the attitude of “we can make it work, fix it or save it!”

One of those is our own Dr. T.C.Tan, a distinguished member of the technical staff for CommScope. In my 18 years with the company, it has been always been a comfort to know that we could pick up the phone and get T.C. involved, as I am sure anyone who knows him will agree.

Well, recently I found that someone had recorded T.C. presenting at an event, discussing the technology options for the data center with a bit of wireless technology thrown in, so I had to take the opportunity to share!

P.S: Hopefully you agree T.C. is a Top Cat!
