Andrew Corporation, a global leader in communications systems and
products, has been awarded the second phase of a strategic multiyear
contract from a Tier 1 operator in the Middle East for a major
geolocation system deployment.
The phase two contract award is valued in excess of $10 million,
bringing the total contract value to date to more than $20 million. The
project continues to grow as Andrew installs the first fully operational
uplink time difference of arrival (U-TDOA) system outside of North
America and the Caribbean. When completed, the Andrew Geometrix(R)
U-TDOA system will cover a network of thousands of cell sites. Work on
phase two is beginning as the first phase nears completion.
"The increase in size of the project award to Andrew is indicative of
the confidence customers have in our worldwide geolocation performance
and dependability," said Terry Garner, group president, Andrew Network
Solutions. "Geometrix continues to deliver unrivaled capabilities in
supporting the global mobile location requirements of operators anywhere
in the world."
U-TDOA is a network-based means of determining a mobile device's
position by comparing and calculating the difference in time required
for its signal to reach different base station transceiver sites. Andrew
Geometrix also supports the other handset-based and network-based
wireless location methods--assisted global positioning system (AGPS) in
both mobile-based and mobile-assisted versions, Matrix, cell identity
(CID), and enhanced cell identity (E-CID) technologies--and includes the
secure user plane location (SUPL) standard. In addition, Andrew employs
hybrid location methods that combine features from the individual
locating technologies.
Andrew Geometrix, which identifies locations of mobile devices, is the
world's most advanced mobile locating system. Operators and
third-parties worldwide count on Geometrix mobile location centers (MLC)
to offer location-based services for:
-- Consumers, such as navigation, motorist assistance, child tracking,
vehicle location, and shipment status
-- Enterprises, to enhance vehicle and service dispatch, follow fleet
movement, and track valuable assets
-- Public safety, to help locate callers for emergency service centers.
Andrew is the world's most trusted supplier of high-accuracy mobile
location systems. Andrew's Geometrix location systems have been
installed by more operators than any competing system and offer the
world's most advanced array of standards-compliant, fully-interoperable
locating options in a single carrier-grade system, including Serving
Mobile Location Centers (SMLC) and Gateway Mobile Location Centers
(GMLC). Since the first Geometrix systems entered service in 2001,
cellular network operators covering hundreds of millions of people have
installed Andrew Geometrix systems to provide accurate location of
mobile users for a wide range of advanced services.
