CommScope Carrier Solutions Announces Advanced Enclosure Technology for Wireless E911 Applications

June 7, 2005 HICKORY, N.C.

CommScope, Inc. (NYSE: CTV), a market leader in the design and manufacture of advanced enclosures, today announced its specialized cabinets for E911 applications. CommScope was among the first in the industry to develop these compact outdoor enclosures, which are designed to house high-density electronic equipment. This cabinet technology enables service providers to meet public safety and emergency service regulations in next-generation wireless networks.

"CommScope plays a unique role supporting E911 public safety wireless services," stated Ted Hally, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Wireless/Carrier Solutions. "We design these cabinets to house E911 equipment where space is limited. These compact cabinets provide superior reliability and heat dissipation as well as flexibility of installation for wireless E911 applications for Public Safety, Emergency and Homeland Security Networks. Service providers understand that CommScope enclosure solutions have proven reliability and the flexibility to work with virtually any network platform."

Carrier Solution's E911 cabinets are designed with an enhanced heating and cooling system to protect and support the deployment of next-generation equipment that provides subscriber location services over cellular networks. When a wireless user dials 911, a local emergency official with access to E911 technology should be able to determine the identity of the caller and location. This is vital information in an emergency, and service reliability is key.

Hally explained, "Public safety and emergency service regulations are requiring service providers to build E911 capability regardless of their current network platform. CommScope's E911 enclosure technology is designed to work with virtually any network including Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), Global Standard for Mobile (GSM), and Next-Generation 2.5G/3G Wireless services."

CommScope's innovative enclosures are compact, versatile indoor or outdoor cabinets that, in addition to meeting the requirements of E911 services, can be used for applications ranging from Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL), High rate Digital Subscriber Line (HDSL), Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS) and Integrated Service Data Network (ISDN). The enhanced cooling system also provides customers with environmental controls to provide superior heat dissipation using heat exchanger technology. Using a patented sheet metal design, the advanced enclosure system and series of sealed bays protect sensitive electronics and provide resistance from Electro-magnetic Interference (EMI), humidity, dust, rain, fire and vandalism. The cabinets' range of sizes offer installation choices for pad, pole, or wall mount. In addition, CommScope's advanced enclosure technology meets the ISO & TL 9000 and Telcordia GR-487 requirements.
