CommScope Enterprise Solutions Complies With the Latest Category 6A and Class EA Standards

SYSTIMAX®GigaSPEED®X10D Solution exceeds industry standards three years in advance of ratification
February 21, 2008 RICHARDSON, Texas

CommScope Enterprise Solutions, a division of CommScope, Inc. (NYSE:CTV), keeping with its tradition of industry-leading innovation, has confirmed that its SYSTIMAX® GigaSPEED® X10D Solution exceeds the latest channel performance requirements for Category 6A cabling. The standards, which received committee approval, were developed and set forth by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Launched in December 2004, the GigaSPEED X10D UTP copper cabling solution has been fully compliant with these channel specifications for more than three years.

“At CommScope, we have a proven track record of leadership in the development of copper and fiber cabling standards, which has enabled us to develop innovative, cost-effective solutions long before the formal standards are ratified,” said Luc Adriaenssens, senior vice president R&D and technology, CommScope Enterprise Solutions. “We believe this is a huge advantage to our customers, giving them access to the leading-edge technologies with none of the worry that is associated with being an early adopter. When our customers choose a SYSTIMAX solution, they do so with confidence that our solutions will not only comply with the standards requirements but will offer industry-leading performance.”

At the time the SYSTIMAX GigaSPEED X10D Solution was developed, engineers at CommScope Labs created unique proprietary design tools to quantify and predict alien crosstalk in the cabling channel – a phenomenon that could not be detected with traditional testing technology. The result was performance testing and qualification in what is now known as the “6-around-1” cable configuration – the “worst-case” installation channel test configurations for alien crosstalk. Tests demonstrating channel performance compliance by the GigaSPEED X10D Solution were witnessed and confirmed in May 2005 by Underwriters Laboratories Inc. (UL), an independent, not-for-profit product safety certification organization.

“The performance targets we set for our GigaSPEED X10D Solution in 2004 were adopted in TIA and ISO/IEC as the objectives for Category 6A and Class EA specifications,” said Adriaenssens. “As a result, I am pleased to say that all GigaSPEED X10D installations since 2004 exceed the new channel requirements.”

The Category 6A standard (TIA 568B.2-10) and the amendment to ISO/IEC 11801 that includes the Class EA channel specifications were approved and ratified by the TIA TR-42 and ISO/IEC by country voting on February 8. The standards specify four-pair copper cabling performance up to 500 MHz and add key performance parameters for alien crosstalk that were not characterized in previous drafts.

“With the ratification of the Category 6A and Class EA standards by the TIA and ISO/IEC, we are expecting the demand for 10 Gb/s solutions to increase,” said Mark Peterson, senior vice president, global marketing, CommScope Enterprise Solutions. “For early adopters who already experience the business benefits of the SYSTIMAX GigaSPEED X10D Solution, this will serve as further validation they have made a wise selection.”
