CommScope Touts Newly Acquired Advanced Network Architectures at OSP EXPO 2015

Will Demonstrate How to Deliver More Services Over PON, Lower-Cost FTTH Architectures
September 1, 2015 HICKORY, NC

During this week’s OSP EXPO 2015 in Denver, CommScope, Inc. will display its newly acquired solutions for broadband access networks and host a seminar on using available fiber for new services.

“Increasingly, providers are being asked to deliver more bandwidth and services over their existing fiber infrastructure,” says Jaxon Lang, general manager and vice president, Broadband Network Solutions (BNS), CommScope. “We work closely with our customers around the globe to find faster, more efficient methods of bringing fiber to the home or business, while minimizing the CapEx spend on new cabling networks.”

In the OSP EXPO seminar titled, “Strategies for Delivering More Services Over PON Architectures,” Ryan Chappell, manager, Global Business Development, BNS, CommScope, will discuss tactics for network operators to get more out of their existing fiber. Chappell will provide examples of how to add new devices such as distributed antenna systems, high-definition security cameras, Wi-Fi hotspots and small cells to existing PON infrastructures, which can create new revenue streams for broadband communication providers. The seminar is scheduled for September 2, 2015 at 8 a.m. MDT, and is free to all registered OSP EXPO attendees.

CommScope will showcase its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) architectures including fiber indexing and the fiber distribution hub (FDH) 4000.

Fiber indexing uses standardized building block components including connectorized and indexed service terminals with hardened multi-fiber optical connectors to create plug-and-play network that is faster to deploy. It can reduce cabling cost by as much as 70 percent.

The FDH 4000 addresses the need for high-density, weatherproof enclosures, in a market where there is increasingly restrictive permitting ordinance for new construction. It addresses the market’s needs for below-grade and underground FTTH deployments.

Last week, CommScope announced it completed its previously announced acquisition of TE Connectivity’s (NYSE: TEL) Telecom, Enterprise and Wireless businesses.

“We are excited to move forward as one company positioned for continued success,” said Eddie Edwards, CommScope president and chief executive officer. “Together, we look to accelerate industry innovation, solve more wired and wireless network challenges, and better serve customers in more markets around the world. By uniting our complementary solutions, technologies and geographic and market coverage, we have created a stronger platform for competing successfully around the world.”

For the near term, the newly-acquired TE Connectivity BNS businesses will be operated as one of CommScope’s business segments, alongside of the existing CommScope segments of Wireless, Enterprise and Broadband.

OSP Expo will take place September 1-3, 2015 at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, CO. CommScope will display its network solutions at booth #313.
