Stacking is a capability that most switch vendors offer their customers to more efficiently manage multiple ICX switches as one. At Ruckus Networks, we've added features that make stacking even more powerful.
More specifically, we are the only networking vendor that offers stacking technology across our entire portfolio, ranging from our entry-level switches (including the compact switch) to our aggregation and core switches. Our unique stacking technology allows customers to simplify management while delivering performance and scalability solutions needed to meet today's customer challenges.
Our stacking technology uses standard 10, 40 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet cables and optics for stacking. This means we can eliminate proprietary and costly approaches found in competitor solutions. Standard Ethernet cables and optics allow you to stack across long distances – between multiple wiring closets, floors, and buildings up to 10 kilometers apart.
We also support stacking for as many as 12 switches per stack, further reducing the number of touch points or IP addresses that network administrators need to manage. Most other vendors offer much less than that, if at all. High availability is assured with in-service software upgrades across a stack. This enables easy software upgrades to our switches in a stack – one at a time – without any downtime.
We also provide continuous service delivery using our hitless stack member insertion and removal. Stacking capabilities are built-in and consider standard on every ICX. There are no ports dedicated solely for stacking. Meaning, they can be used for stacking or uplinks. Plus, optional modules are not required for stacking.
Now you'd think all these premium capabilities would come at a high cost – and you'd probably be right if you were looking at competitive solutions. However, not at Ruckus Networks. Our stacking technology provides flexibility, scalability, reliability, and ease of management.
