EDP's innovative campus at the forefront of technology with CommScope wired and wireless solutions

EDP (Energias de Portugal) is a global energy company with a strong focus on renewable energy and sustainability.

In recent years, EDP has experienced strong growth in Spain, which has led the company to increase and unify its physical assets. This is the case with EDP's new 20,000-square-meter campus in Madrid, which can house up to 1,200 employees from the group's different companies. The building serves as a hub for collaboration and innovation, reflecting EDP's vision of fostering a greener future.

Challenge

The project required the integration of a range of wired and wireless technologies, including Wi-Fi 6, multiple IoT devices, video conferencing rooms and room reservation systems.

Given the diverse technologies and services operating over the same wired network. It was crucial for EDP to document every asset connected to the network. Remote management capabilities were essential. Additionally, EDP aimed to maximize security in a dynamic environment with varying technologies and user topologies, ensuring they could control changes in port connectivity and locate any IT equipment connected to the network in real time. Ensures mobile coverage at any point on the campus, regardless of the operator was a must.

Solution
  • The new space connects two buildings with a high-performance cabling system using category 6A UTP copper.
  • Flexible consolidation points are installed on the ceiling and floor.
  • The backbone is pre-terminated OM5 fiber, ready for 200G and 400G migration.
  • CommScope ImVision® allows real-time remote network monitoring and documentation.
  • CommScope DAS enables mobile coverage across the campus.
Benefits

The new space connects two buildings of six and seven floors, respectively, with a high-performance structured cabling system deployed using category 6A UTP copper with trunk links and pre-connectorized OM5 multimode fiber.

Mobile coverage is now ensured across the campus with DAS (Distributed Antenna System).

ImVision®, the AIM system, enables the EDP network to be monitored across multiple sites remotely in real time, documenting each asset connected to the network.

EDP Madrid has been transformed into a hub for tensorization, automation and energy efficiency technologies, all under one roof.
