Last Friday, the FCC approved AT&T’s $48.5 billion dollar acquisition of DirecTV. According to The Verge, the merger is projected to combine around 26 million pay-tv subscribers—ranking them as the largest pay-tv service in the nation.

Light Reading reported on IHS’ recent global survey that revealed one-third of residential customers will be passed by DOCSIS 3.1-enabled headends as soon as April 2017.The US alone is projected to have more than 17 million cable modems supported by the technology, with speeds as high as 10 Gbit/s.

Additionally, Juniper Research also published its latest study reporting the number of connected devices will increase 285% over the next five years. The shift is primarily due to an increase in the Internet of Things market, reports Market Watch.

Lastly, Bloomberg Business reported Verizon’s unveiling of its new mobile-TV service, Go90. Originally scheduled for an early June release, the mobile-TV service launch has been pushed to late August. The streaming service is said to feature live TV, short clips and video-on-demand capabilities.
