On Monday, Digital TV Europe reported that the Pay-TV channel business is growing strongly in Europe with a compound growth rate of 3.1%, according to analysis from SNL Kagan.
eWeek covered an IHS Research study that showed that Wi-Fi will reach 90% of global households by 2019. The study also forecasted the amount of connected devices to increase over the next five years, “growing up to 13 connected devices per broadband home.”
Additionally, AT&T expanded its GigaPower capabilities to Florida cities of Fort Lauderdale, Hialeah, Hollywood and Miami. FierceTelecom positioned this as “a key area of expansion for AT&T’s 1 Gbps service.” The launch in Florida comes days after the company disclosed plans for future developments in Dallas-Ft Worth and Chicago.
The New York Business Journal reported on Stealth Communication Services and Xchange Telecom’s announcement to bring a broadband boost to the “digital desert” of Brooklyn and Queens, New York. This attempt is considered a “Herculean task,” with the companies expecting to offer customers up to 10 megabits per second and contribute a total of $3.75 million towards the project.
Lastly, three of the largest UK ISPs, BT, TalkTalk and Virgin Media, have teamed up to support business broadband for smaller services. According to Broadband TV News, the three entities will join forces to develop a new Code of Practice to help consumers.
