Wi-Fi CERTIFIED 6™ (Wi-Fi 6) brings higher capacity, efficiency, and performance to enterprises, distributed offices, and small businesses. Beyond Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6 extended (Wi-Fi 6E) aims to support mobile users, IoT devices, and latency-sensitive applications in the 6GHz band.

What is Wi-Fi 6?

 

Wi-Fi 6 is the latest generation in Wi-Fi technology. Also known as "802.11ax,” Wi-Fi 6 was originally built in response to support more connected devices, but with OFDMA, TWT, BSS Coloring, and more, Wi-Fi 6 has become so much more. Wi-Fi 6 delivers:

  • Faster network performance—up to four times faster than 802.11ac
  • Greater capacity—for simultaneous support of users and "things"
  • Enhanced reliability—changing Wi-Fi from “best-efforts” to a deterministic medium

What is Wi-Fi 6E?

On April 23, 2020, the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted unanimously to allocate 1,200 megahertz (MHz) of spectrum for unlicensed use in the 5.925-7.125 GHz (6 GHz) band. At the same time, the Wi-Fi Alliance extended the Wi-Fi 6 standard (802.11ax) to include the new 6 GHz band. The result is Wi-Fi 6 extended or Wi-Fi 6E. Wi-Fi 6E is significant in that it represents the first-ever expansion of the Wi-Fi spectrum.
