Andrew Corporation Improves Wireless Coverage At 3GSM World Congress Site, While Showcasing New Solutions For GSM Networks

February 1, 2005 ORLAND PARK, Ill.

As the world's wireless telecommunications industry converges February 14-17 on Cannes, France, for the annual 3GSM World Congress, Andrew Corporation (NASDAQ:ANDW) will ensure everyone stays connected throughout the Palais du Congres with indoor systems that add wireless capacity and coverage.

Four Andrew MMR Fiber Distributed Antenna System units are installed to enhance GSM900/GSM1800/UMTS coverage and capacity throughout the venue for the tens of thousands of attendees who can stay connected with mobile devices such as phones, laptops, and wireless-enabled personal digital assistants. In addition, Andrew's MMR system is enabling video conferencing via mobile phones through the UMTS network.

At its exhibit (stand G29, Hall 2, in the Palais des Festivals et des Congres, La Croisette, Cannes), Andrew also will showcase new tailored solutions for GSM/UMTS networks worldwide plus new products that enhance wireless connectivity, some of which include:

UMTS Network Solutions

Wireless operators face challenges in quickly deploying optimized UMTS networks while minimizing costs. At 3GSM 2005, Andrew introduces solutions for GSM/EDGE/UMTS sites in high density areas, dedicated UMTS coverage and capacity with maximized interference protection, and improved quality of service at reduced operating expense.

RF Site Solutions

-- Base Station Antenna Products: The new tri-band Decibel(R) base station antenna has three independent dual polarized antennas in one radome that can be independently electrically downtilted and is fully compatible with the patented Teletilt(R) remote control system. In addition, Andrew transmission line products offer speed and ease of installation on sites with limited space and deliver cost effective long term reliability. Featured are AVA(TM) coaxial cables with Positive Stop(TM) connectors that reduce cable subsystem costs by 30%; new Weatherproof Enclosures that are a fast, cost effective alternative to tape or shrink tubes; and accessories that assure system performance and protection. Included are SureGround(TM) grounding kits, SnapStak(TM) stackable hangers, SureFlex(TM) cable assemblies, and Arrestor Plus(R) surge arrestors. Also on display will be the ValuLine(R) III antennas, the latest addition to the ValuLine family, representing the next generation in antenna design for improved electrical and mechanical performance. The new design features a universal mounting configuration that allows for ease of radio integration.

-- Tower Mounted Amplifiers: The new UMTS RET Dual Tower Mounted Amplifier from Andrew will cost-effectively optimize network performance, with AISG-2 compatible remote antenna tilt control, ASIG signal acceptance on both main and diversity ports, and backward compatibility with non-AISG UMTS sites.

-- Mobile Location Solutions: The new Andrew Geometrix(R) Mobile Location System supports any handset-based, network-based, and hybrid locating technology on a single platform, enabling GSM operators worldwide to offer innovative caller-location services to commercial enterprises, public safety, and government agencies.

Indoor and Outdoor Coverage Solutions

-- MMB21PB Booster brings full Node B performance to distant sites at low installation cost and includes AISG interface and additional supervision functions.

-- The new GSM repeater, Node G938, is the primary network element for a first-phase rollout or any phase where cost, coverage, and quality need to be optimized. It increases signal strength between mobile and base where high quality voice or high speed data service is not available.

-- Britecell(R) Plus I-Link Distributed Communication System Link connects Britecell Plus to a BTS hotel over 10 kilometers away, distributes several services with fewest number of fibers, and covers multiple buildings with a centralized BTS.

-- Pico Node-B is a low-power, high-capacity UMTS base station, about the size of a laptop computer, that extends voice and data services into any indoor site.
