Andrew Introduces First Reusable Connector Protection System

March 27, 2006 WESTCHESTER, Ill.

Andrew Corporation, a global leader in communications systems and products, has introduced WeatherShield(TM) Connector Protection Enclosure family with the industry's first reusable weatherproofing system for cable connections.

Andrew's new family of WeatherShield Connector Protection Enclosures seals and protects from the environment the connections between 1/2-inch jumpers and devices such as diplexers and tower mounted amplifiers, as well as the in-line connections between 1/2-inch jumpers and 1 5/8-inch, 1 1/4-inch, and 7/8-inch coaxial cable feeders.

This robust, one-piece weatherproofing enclosure offers an additional measure of system protection by providing a high temperature resistant, watertight seal around the connectors while also helping to dampen vibration that can loosen connector interfaces over time. It enables operators and installers to realize greater cost savings by enabling easier access to crowded, space-constrained connections, producing a higher quality, longer lasting weather seal with much improved cost effectiveness.

The saving in time alone is significant. For example, installation time for a more technically advanced eight-connector antenna containing multiple arrays can be cut from hours using standard weatherproofing to just minutes with Andrew's WeatherShield.

"Compared to using labor intensive tapes and shrink tubes that must be replaced every time a connection is accessed, the new WeatherShield enclosures will result in cost savings of up to 2,000 percent each time a connection must be accessed and re-weatherproofed for testing or system maintenance," said Connie Doles, vice president of HELIAX(R) Accessories, Andrew Corporation. "The reusable, high quality WeatherShield enclosures ensure cable connections are completely protected from the environment for constant, reliable radio frequency transmission and lower system operating costs."
