CommScope Invests More Than $2.5 million in Bray Factory State-of-the-Art Cabling Company

New investment will be spent on equipment and training
July 30, 2007 DUBLIN

CommScope, Inc. (NYSE:CTV), a global leader in infrastructure solutions for communications networks, has extended the production capacity of its SYSTIMAX® Solutions manufacturing facility in Bray. CommScope invested more than $2.5 million in new equipment and employee training.

Mike Kelley, senior vice president Global Enterprise Operations, CommScope, praised the local facility: “The production of structured cabling is a highly skilled process. The Irish operation has proved itself time and again in terms of people, resources and productivity. The presence of an experienced and skilled workforce with longevity of service from management to engineers to plant production creates a winning combination.”

The Bray manufacturing facility, which originally opened in 1985, initially manufactured digital transmission equipment. In 1993, the manufacture of structured cabling commenced and today, the manufacturing facility represents the only SYSTIMAX Solutions™ structured cabling manufacturing operation in Europe. There are four other such facilities internationally including Australia, United States (2) and Brazil.

Dave Gilmore, general manager of the Bray facility, welcomed the decision to extend the local manufacturing plant:

“On average, we manufacture more than 750 kilometers of cable per day (including our Category 6A/Class EA cable) or more than two million feet of cable per day primarily for the European marketplace. Our capacity produces enough cable to circle the globe not once but seven times in a single year,” he said. “Moreover, our copper and fiber solutions are consistently recognized for their premier quality and reliability. Here in Bray, we possess the best equipment and processes available to produce the highest quality structured cabling solutions.”

The Bray facility is approximately 12,000 square meters, of which 9,700 square meters is manufacturing space. Besides manufacturing operations the facility also hosts EMEA sales, marketing and product management teams and general corporate support (finance, information technology and human resources). A unique element of this U.S. corporation is that the global marketing function is spearheaded in the Bray facility.

The sophisticated manufacturing equipment necessitated a total reengineering of the plant floor. Once the actual physical and electrical installations were complete, then the company undertook a major recruitment and training program to manage the new facilities.

CommScope is a global leader in infrastructural cabling, which is supported by world-class engineers and scientists. The CommScope labs produce technical innovation with more than 1,300 patents and pending applications worldwide. The company has demonstrated innovative systems like Category 6A for 10GBASE-T and has consistently achieved design excellence over the years with Category 3,4,5e and 6 systems. Backed by strong research and development, CommScope combines technical expertise, proprietary technology and global manufacturing capabilities to deliver industry-leading solutions to customers around the world.

“Our new capacity marks Bray as a leading facility within the international cabling industry,” said Gilmore. “We’re designing networks of the future today, so our customers will be successful tomorrow.”
