RICHARDSON, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Paul Kolesar, a CommScope Fellow, has received the prestigious 2011 International
Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 1906 Award, which recognizes
technical experts from around the globe who have contributed
significantly to the work of IEC and the electrotechnical industry.
As an active member of IEC committees and work groups, Kolesar has
contributed significantly to the standards development of OM3 and OM4
multimode fibers, benefitting customers and the broader industry by
providing the most cost-effective means of supporting faster
applications and greater distances over optical fiber cabling. Kolesar
is one of 15 people in the United States to earn the award this year.
“Paul’s contributions to the establishment and subsequent success of the SYSTIMAX®
LazrSPEED® and InstaPATCH®
product lines have paved the way for market leadership of highly
flexible solutions, extending the useful life of multimode fiber over
the past decade and into the next,” said George Brooks, senior vice
president, Enterprise Product Line Management, CommScope. “He has played
a key role in the tremendous growth and the rapid proliferation of
fiber-optic solutions in the past several years.”
Brooks added that Kolesar’s recent accolade is an example of CommScope’s
leadership in the design and standardization of solutions that have a
fundamental impact on the industry, providing long-term, high-quality
connectivity for customers designed to meet their needs today and well
into the future.
Kolesar, based in Richardson, TX, was promoted to CommScope Fellow
earlier this year, the highest level of professional achievement for
CommScope’s engineering and technical employees.
“I’m honored by this acknowledgement of my efforts for advancing the
industry,” Kolesar said. “This award highlights not only my efforts, but
also CommScope’s vision for Living
Infrastructure that has enabled our customers to deploy solutions
that become standards in the future.”
Kolesar has been an active member of SC86A/WG1 (optical fibers) for
several years. In particular his strong leadership contributed
substantially to the development of standard documents for OM3 multimode
fibers in the early 2000s and more recently for OM4 multimode fibers
(IEC 60793-2-10 Edition 4). Demonstrating his multi-disciplinary
expertise, Kolesar is also active in SC86B/WG4 (connectors) and
SC86C/WG1 (systems).
The IEC’s 1906 award recognizes experts like Kolesar who have
contributed in an exceptional way to the technical work of the IEC.
Created in 2004, the 1906 Award commemorates the IEC’s year of
foundation and honors IEC experts around the world whose work is
fundamental to the IEC and makes the work of international
standardization possible.
