CommScope to Showcase Its Innovative Wideband Edge QAM Solution At CableLabs Conference

July 27, 2011 HICKORY, N.C.

CommScope, Inc., a global leader in infrastructure solutions for communications networks, will be showcasing its new wideband edge QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) solution during the August 8-9 CableLabs® Summer Conference in Keystone, CO.

CommScope’s LxS-16016 wideband edge QAM, which CommScope believes to be the industry’s first all-digital, carrier grade wideband edge QAM, is a dense, scalable solution that is vital to supporting more of the advanced and next-generation services over HFC (hybrid fiber coax) networks.

“The CommScope LxS-16016 wideband edge QAM introduces our customers to an entirely new era for enabling new service offerings,” said Shane Eleniak, vice president, Advanced Broadband Solutions, CommScope “We believe that the CableLabs conference is the perfect audience for this new solution because attendees are dedicated to pursuing new cable telecommunications technologies. The LxS-16016 enables cable operators and multi-system operators to integrate new service offerings seamlessly into their business objectives without interrupting service to their customers.”

The CommScope LxS-16016 wideband edge QAM offers up to 160 QAM channels on each of 16 RF (radio frequency) ports totaling 2560 QAMs in a small, fully redundant 4 RU chassis. This density allows cable operators to have the flexibility of rolling out new services, such as video on demand, switched digital video, broadcast video, DOCSIS®, and cable services delivered over IP on the same physical redundant radio frequency (RF) port in the future without the need for costly truck rolls or disrupting service. By directly digitizing the entire 1 GHz band, the LxS-16016 wideband edge QAM achieves superior RF and enhanced remote control flexibility. Additionally, the density of this new solution can help operators reduce capital and operating expenses by significantly lowering power consumption, cabling, rack space and cooling.
