Comsearch, an Andrew Company, Selected by FCC as a Database Manager for 71-95 GHz Spectrum

February 7, 2005 ORLAND PARK, Ill.

Comsearch, an Andrew Corporation company, will develop and manage a microwave link registration database for Federal Communications Commission licensees operating in the 71-76 GHz, 81-86 GHz, and 92-95 GHz bands, under a memorandum of understanding reached with the FCC.

As database manager, Comsearch will enable licensees to identify available spectrum in these bands and register their links, ensuring interference-free operation. These bands will enable high quality multi-gigabit point-to-point communications.

The new registration database, scheduled to launch February 8, will facilitate rapid deployment of new services through an impartial and central point of contact between operators and incumbents.

Licensees can register through Comsearch's online link registration database, accessible through http://www.gigabitlink.com, or through Comsearch's interactive solutions site at http://www.comsearch.com. The database offers upfront interference analysis with commercial systems as well as automatic coordination with the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA).

Comsearch was chosen to be a database manager based on its more than 28 years of experience in database development, frequency coordination, and spectrum management. The new database management system will streamline the licensing process, thus expediting the deployment of commercial spectrum use in these newly allocated bands.

"This is the first time that the FCC has established a separate, industry-based registration system for point-to-point microwave in an effort to simplify licensing," said Chris Hardy, vice president and general manager, Comsearch. "Comsearch is proud to be chosen as a database manager for the 71-95 GHz bands and we are confident that this web-based application will streamline and shorten the licensing process in these bands. Industry managed device registration offers a unique spectrum management system that provides both speed to market and protection from interference. Managing spectrum resources in these bands will provide regulatory protection and encourage efficient use of spectrum."
