Meeting with friends or sharing the excitement of one of the world’s
biggest pop acts is easy for concert goers inside The
O2 in London thanks to Andrew,
the CommScope, Inc. division that is a global leader in communications
products and systems.
Andrew supplied a multi-operator ION™(Intelligent Optical Network) fiber distributed antenna system
to O2,
the leading UK mobile operator, in support of a coverage and capacity
system inside The O2 over the last year. Andrew’s
15 ION-M 9/18/21c tri-band remote units take signals from dedicated
operator base stations or repeaters and spread them via fiber-optic
cables throughout the arena to ensure reliable voice and data coverage
for the millions of annual attendees to the entertainment venue.
Andrew has worked often with O2 over the last 10 years, supplying
wireless infrastructure solutions that include the management of most of
the operator’s repeater systems. “We
are pleased that O2 continues to call on Andrew for ensuring its
customers can use the latest voice and data services wherever they are,”
said Andrea
Casini, vice president, Europe, Middle East, North Africa Sales and
Marketing, Andrew. “We are especially proud
to have done so in The O2.”
The O2 recently confirmed its position as the most popular music venue
on the planet, based on Pollstar arena figures that show first quarter
2008 ticket sales of almost half a million, which is the most worldwide.
Many of the world’s greatest acts have played
at The O2.
Andrew is a world leader in providing coverage and capacity solutions,
with a comprehensive
coverage and capacity product portfolio that includes ION
distributed antenna systems, Node repeaters, RADIAX®
radiating coaxial cable, in-building antennas, supporting passive
devices, and worldwide support teams for network design, installation
and testing. The company has more than 15 years of experience in
designing, installing, and managing large and complex radio frequency
distribution systems for metropolitan railways, building owners, and
public mobile radio and telephone operators throughout the world. Major
projects have included the 2006
World Cup stadiums; major venues used during the 2000 Sydney Olympic
Games; the tallest building in the world—Building
101 in Taipei, Taiwan; metro
rails in Beijing, Hong Kong, Moscow and Montreal; and numerous international
airports.
