This week, news of ARRIS’s recent deal with Spanish cable operator R appeared in a number of outlets, including Digital TV Europe. ARRIS will provide Radio Frequency over Glass (RFoG) technology to improve R’s bandwidth provisioning, increase efficiency across its network and ensure legacy infrastructure can be expanded with fiber-to-the-premises RFoG extensions.
Cablefax: The Magazine released its 2014 Most Powerful Women in Cable list, which included ARRIS Senior Vice President and General Manager of Consumer Solutions Debbie Stackis and Senior Vice President of Global Marketing Sandy Howe. Separately, Motley Fool listed ARRIS, along with Twitter and salesforce.com, as a fast-growing tech company to watch. The story noted that ARRIS’s sales growth has significantly increased since its acquisition of Motorola Home in 2013.
In other industry news, CED Magazine highlighted a recent report from ACG Research that found that the average household bandwidth requirements will increase by 31 percent annually over the next five years due the growing number of over-the-top (OTT) content services. According to the report, OTT unicast video traffic is predicted to be 4.6 times greater than traditional multicast traffic by 2018.
Finally, Rapid TV News reported that the latest figures from Dataxis show that more than half of cable subscriptions in Latin America are for digital packages. Among the region's seven largest markets, Brazil is showing the highest rates of digital cable penetration, followed by Chile and Mexico.
