WASHINGTON, June 10, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- CABLE SHOW 2013 – ARRIS Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARRS) announced that Comcast will be launching the ARRIS XG1 gateway in Q3 to deliver its next-generation X1 television experience.

The gateway is based on the RDK platform software from Comcast, which simplifies the development of third-party applications and tools that are central to the X1 experience.

About the XG1
The ARRIS XG1 is the next-generation gateway behind the Comcast X1 experience. It's designed to be the hub of the new IP-connected home, combining powerful hardware and software to deliver multiscreen, DVR, cool apps, and more, while reducing energy use and maintenance. These features are becoming increasingly relevant in the face of new global media consumption trends.

According to a recent study by Motorola Home (prior to its acquisition by ARRIS), global consumers are watching more TV than ever (19 hours per week), nearly a third of which is recorded (29% of all content), on multiple screens (55% of consumers using multiscreen devices).

"The XG1 represents another way ARRIS empowers service providers to address consumers' rapidly changing content consumption habits and transform today's multiscreen TV experiences," said Larry Robinson, President, Customer Premises Equipment at ARRIS. "The gateway combines software extensibility with an IP-based delivery model to deliver a better TV experience—from intuitive search to voice control, recommendations, a better DVR experience, multiscreen, and more—today and into the future."

The ARRIS XG1 launch marks the company's continued support for the RDK ecosystem, closely following its CES announcement of the first RDK-based whole-home network and entertainment gateway.

Comcast X1 is a revolutionary entertainment platform that seamlessly merges entertainment with the rest of consumers' digital lives. Utilizing advancements made possible by the cloud and Comcast's extensive technology network, X1 combines customized apps, social media features and traditional video services to deliver a personalized and dynamic TV entertainment experience.

"The ARRIS commitment to integrating hardware and software solutions in support of our RDK initiative has been instrumental in expanding the Comcast X1 experience," said Steve Reynolds, SVP of Customer Premise Equipment and Home Network at Comcast. "With the flexibility of the ARRIS XG1, we can continue to grow our service capabilities to keep pace with today's multiscreen trends with an eye towards the evolution of TV."

The ARRIS XG1 is on display at The Cable Show 2013 in Washington D.C., June 10-12, Booth #2433.
