Beijing,March 5, 2018 - Ruckus Networks, an ARRIS company, today announced it has completed a large scale network deployment at the Amara Signature Shanghai, the first Amara Hotel in China. The new network, which includes Ruckus’ industry-leading wireless products and ICX® wired switches, will deliver a comprehensive Wi-Fi service covering all 343 rooms, foyers, elevators, restaurants, the gym, swimming pool, and other public areas - together totaling around 20,000 square metres.

The upscale hotel forms part of a new multi-use commercial development, including both office and retail elements, located in the Puxi district of Shanghai, owned and managed by Singapore-listed Amara Holdings.

“When picking a hotel, speedy Wi-Fi and ease of network access is one of the most important factors for guests checking into a five-star hotel,” said William Ho, Vice President, Asia Pacific & Japan, Ruckus Networks. “Therefore, developing a high performance network infrastructure has become a critical and urgent task for hotel CIOs and IT departments to solve.”

Ruckus, along with its on-site deployment partner InterTouch, evaluated the features and needs at different areas of the hotel, eventually recommending a range of products, including the Ruckus H500, R700, R500 indoor access points (APs) and T300, P300 outdoor APs for secure and reliable access.

Ruckus ICX7450 and ICX6430 switches are being used to allow flexible scalability and to simplify network set-up and management. They also enhance security, minimize troubleshooting and make upgrades easy. The low-latency, non-blocking architecture ensures excellent throughput for the most demanding video, Unified Communications, VDI, and mobile applications. The combination and configuration of Ruckus ICX switches and Wi-Fi APs can deliver gigabit data transmission with powerful performance and a stable network connection.

Areas with high traffic density, such as the restaurant and conference rooms, usually require a higher network capacity and performance. The extra high client density and frequent RF interference could affect the quality of network access. The Ruckus R700 AP is a designed for this demanding environment.

With Ruckus patented BeamFlex+ adaptive antenna technology, the R700 can expand network coverage, relieve interference and provide reliable, fast data transfer rates in a busy environment (maximum 1300 Mbps).

Together with the Ruckus ICX 7450 switches, the equipment combination can deliver a complete multi-gigabit 802.11ac Wave 2 solution, which will optimize the network access performance and solve the growing problems caused by increasing equipment density and bandwidth requirements.

A key design challenge for the network, prior to implementing Ruckus technology, was network interference from the retail sections of the commercial development floors – from 1 through 6 of the shopping center.

Ruckus BeamFlex+ adaptive antenna technology plays an important role in this scenario. BeamFlex+ automatically adjusts the signals to the best performing path and steers around interference and obstacles. This ensures the strongest signal, highest throughput and the least amount of interference from the Wi-Fi network.

Separately, Ruckus and InterTouch were required to design a parallel network solution for use by the hotel management team. Networks for customers and hotel management are kept separate to ensure high levels of security.

Additionally, a number of mobile terminals are arranged in the lobby area for customers to complete their check-in or check-out process. These applications also required a higher level of network stability, speed and smooth functioning of hotel check-in/check-out application (app).

Ruckus’ complete access portfolio not only optimizes end user experience, but also simplifies the network construction and management for the IT department.

“Ruckus is able to deliver high speed, high performance and interference free network solution,” said Stephen Li, project manager of InterTouch. “The company’s integrated product portfolio allows us to provide a complete set of high performance network access infrastructure for our customers. This helps optimize performance, simplifies network management and saves time and cost. We would recommend Ruckus to all our customers.”

More than 5000 devices are simultaneously connected to the Wi-Fi network of the Amara Signature Shanghai every day. The unified and reliable network infrastructure supports all business applications without any interruption.
