Leading private provider of data services for off-campus student housing to increase in-building and outdoor wireless coverage in heavy traffic areas

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 10, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Ruckus Networks, an ARRIS company, and Pavlov Media, one of the nation's largest private providers of broadband services for multi-family real estate owners, today announced plans to trial U.S. Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) 3.5 GHz LTE access points in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. The CBRS spectrum will give Pavlov Media the ability to provide cost-effective improvements in wireless in-building and outdoor coverage with increased capacity for areas with heavy data traffic.

CBRS comprises 150 MHz of the 3.5 GHz band (3550 MHz to 3700 MHz), which was historically used by the U.S. government for radar systems. Today, Ruckus also announced that it is the first company to receive FCC certification for its OpenG™ access points bringing CBRS one step closer to commercial deployment. CBRS can be used by network operators and enterprises without having to acquire spectrum licenses. This innovative approach will enable many different uses for LTE networks and speed up deployment time.

"CBRS will be part of our solution offerings to enhance cellular connectivity in the thousands of locations we serve which house hundreds of thousands of people," said Mark Scifres, CEO of Pavlov Media. "We believe that our CBRS deployment with Ruckus will be critical to mobility in multi-dwelling units going forward and are planning for a national rollout as soon as possible."

Pavlov Media helps connect multi-dwelling unit communities where connectivity can be challenging due to thousands of devices, large indoor/outdoor coverage areas, and multi-story buildings (including dorms, apartment complexes, etc.). The service provider has built a robust network and is continuously finding new ways to bring its users exceptional connections nationwide. The use of the new CBRS spectrum will help supplement existing Wi-Fi, and enable new wireless uses for in-building cellular, security, safety, automation and analytics, while addressing the need for additional mobile network capacity and bandwidth.

"Putting LTE over the CBRS spectrum can change the future of wireless connectivity and we'll continue working with forward-looking service providers to make this a reality," said Joel Lindholm, Vice President, OpenG LTE Business, Ruckus Networks. "Our Ruckus OpenG™ portfolio allows Pavlov Media to bring greater indoor wireless coverage to their users and new network capabilities optimized for their market."
