Ruckus Delivers ‘Knockout’ Wi-Fi Performance at 2017 Shanghai ATP Masters Tennis Tournament

January 4, 2018 America/Los_Angeles

Beijing - January 4, 2018 - Ruckus Networks, an ARRIS company, today announced the Wi-Fi network for the media centre, management office, lounges and player facilities at the 2017 Shanghai Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Masters was provided by the company. ATP is one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events.

Working closely with China Telecom, exclusive sponsor of the tournament organizer Shanghai Juss Event Management Co. Ltd, Ruckus deployed access points and controllers in a very short time period, delivering excellent network connectivity. The network was used by the media to deliver live broadcasts and online coverage of the exciting tournament seamlessly and instantaneously.

The 9-day 2017 Shanghai ATP Masters tournament was held October 8-15, ending with Roger Federer defeating Rafael Nadal in the final to earn his second tournament title in the city.

A daily crowd of more than 15,000 people witnessed the matches at Qi Zhong Tennis Center in Shanghai. This respected event is known for its high standards and quality of play, along with top-notch hospitality from organizers and the reception of the Chinese public. Also known as the Shanghai Rolex Masters, the event remains a favourite for players on the ATP World Tour.

“The Shanghai ATP Masters management team is responsible for all aspects of the event and must ensure that everything runs flawlessly,” said China Telecom, designated partner of Shanghai Juss Event Management Co., Ltd. "Large-scale sporting events present challenges for network deployment. Solutions need to be easy to install, easy to debug, stable and simple to manage making Ruckus a perfect fit.”

“After successfully cooperating with Ruckus on the Longines Global Champions Tour and IAAF Diamond League, Ruckus is now our close partner. The Ruckus name enjoys a strong reputation in the industry, and we really appreciate its consistent technology support. We believe we will have more cooperation in the future,” Xi concluded.

Dozens of Ruckus R710, R510 and H500 indoor access points, and T710 outdoor access points were deployed. Compared with competitive products, the Ruckus solution not only saves time and effort, but also provides customers with better network connectivity while saving material costs such as access points and network cables.

Hundreds of media professionals and staff were present at the venue, creating an environment with high density mobile terminals.

Reporters and editors require a stable and interference-free Wi-Fi network to share timely news reports. Media also need high-speed Wi-Fi to quickly edit and send live content. Thus, a high-performance Wi-Fi network became one of the most important demands at the tournament.

“Ruckus is an expert in providing high-performance network connection for high-density public environments including convention centers and stadiums--and we are the preferred choice for sporting events around the world,” said William Ho, Vice President, Asia Pacific & Japan, Ruckus Networks. “Our award-winning patented technology, deployment capability of comprehensive solutions and outstanding on-site service team help us win a high-level of recognition from event organizers."

Interference from various wireless signals brought great challenges to the media center. The Ruckus R710 access point was deployed at the media center to deliver superior performance and reliability in the most demanding environments, addressing the issues of high device density and application bandwidth consumption.

“Media editors could quickly compile information transmitted by photojournalists into media stories with many high-definition images and rich content, and timely release them to the public,” said William.

The Ruckus smart Wi-Fi access points made installation and commissioning easy. They delivered a superior user experience with greater network performance and more stable network connectivity.

According to statistics during the tournament, one Ruckus AP had a daily average access of nearly 400 terminals, reaching 420 units during the peak, with 69 percent mobile phones and the rest Windows and Mac products. The average daily bandwidth rate was 100Mbps, with a total daily bandwidth consumption of up to 339GB. Ruckus products achieved a new breakthrough in terms of use frequency or actual use results.

This is also the best endorsement and compliment to Ruckus's excellent, simple network connection.
